Introduction

Say goodbye to conflict, screaming, time-outs, detentions and suspensions. Say hello to solving problems collaboratively and proactively.  If all those consequences you’ve been using haven’t improved the challenging behaviour of your child or student, then this workshop is for you!  To really address child behaviour, we need to focus on the problems that are causing that behaviour. Solve those problems collaboratively and proactively, and you’ll not only improve the child’s behaviour, you’ll simultaneously improve your relationship, enhance communication, and teach a bunch of important skills.  Dr Greene will train participants in the use of his empirically supported model, Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS).

Two workshops will be held in Melbourne.  The Introduction to CPS Workshop on Monday 1 July introduces participants to the CPS model and it’s use in a range of settings and is suitable for both professionals and parents.  The Advanced CPS Workshop on Tuesday 2 July dives deeper into the CPS model.  The Advanced workshop builds on the understanding you gained during the Introductory workshop, to further develop your skills and ability to implement the CPS model.  The prerequisite for attending the Advanced workshop is having attended at the Introductory Workshop, either on 1 July or when Ross was in the country last year or at some other time.  You can purchase the Introductory and Advanced workshops individually or together.

Workshop Information

Introduction to CPS Workshop – Melbourne Monday 1 July 2019

In this introductory workshop to be held at the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre, Melbourne Victoria, Dr Greene will train participants in the use of his empirically supported model Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS). The CPS model has transformed thinking and practices in countless families, schools, private therapeutic practices, inpatient psychiatry units and juvenile detention facilities throughout the world and has been associated with dramatic reductions in adult-child conflict, challenging behaviours, disciplinary referrals, detentions, suspensions, seclusions and physical, chemical and mechanical restraints.

The CPS model represents a significant departure from discipline-as-usual: It focuses on solving problems rather than on modifying behaviour, emphasises collaborative rather than unilateral solutions, encourages proactive rather than reactive intervention, de-emphasises diagnostic categories and provides practical, research-based tools for assessment and intervention.

Participants in this workshop will leave with an understanding of the underpinnings of the model, its refinements over the past 8-10 years and practical assessment and intervention tools that can be brought back to and used in a diverse range of settings.

All participants will receive a certificate crediting them with 6 workshop/contact hours.

More information about Dr Greene’s CPS model can be found here.

Advanced CPS Training Workshop – Melbourne – Tuesday 2 July 2019

The Advanced workshop dives deeper into the CPS model.  The Advanced workshop builds on the understanding you gained during the Introductory workshop, to further develop your skills and ability to implement the CPS model.  It is the perfect follow on from the Introductory Workshop for anyone serious about changing the existing discipline culture in an organisation.

The Advanced training workshop will provide participants with additional exposure to and instruction in key facets of the CPS model, video examples of its application, and model updates. The Advanced workshop is for those who have had attended the one-day Introductory workshop. The Advanced Training day will be divided into four segments.

Segment 1: Diving deeper on the Assessment of Lagging Skills and Unsolved Problems, including video example and practice

Segment 2: Diving deeper on the Empathy step of Plan B, including video examples

Segment 3: Diving deeper on the Empathy step of Plan B, including video examples and practice

Segment 4: Diving deeper on the Define Adult Concerns and Invitation steps of Plan B, including video examples, and special topics

Prerequisite:  The prerequisite for attending the Advanced workshop is having attended at the Introductory Workshop, either on 26 June or when Ross was in the country last year or at some other time.  You can purchase the Introductory and Advanced workshops together.

Recommendations from last year’s workshop

I was just so impressed with this workshop. I thought it was just brilliant. It was like being given the missing piece of a puzzle to complete my transition over many years from the old fashioned authoritarian approach to discipline, to one that uses empathy and treats children with respect and dignity. I’ve always known what I wanted to achieve but lacked the skills and knowledge to do so as effectively as I wanted. This workshop helped me to see I’ve been focussing on the wrong things. How exciting. Many thanks. (Professional)

Thanks so much for hosting the workshop yesterday. It was super informative and my husband and I both feel we have a better understanding of the CPS model to support our 3 kids. I thought I’d cheekily offer our family if you need a volunteer case study for when Ross returns for advanced training! (Parent)
